What Flower
Are You?

“You are just a sweet person. When a friend needs a shoulder to cry on, you are happy to offer yours with a box of tissues as well. Once in awhile, you wish you could be a little more dramatic but then sensibility sets back in and you know that you are perfect the way you are.”

So tired

Up and down all night with Heidi, she was really restless and kept rolling out of bed.

At least she and Annie are pretty happy this morning even if my brain feels like it is operating 1000 feet under the sea.

West Wing last night was great. Finished with AnnaBeth finding Leo collapsed. Very sad. I think next week is the last two episodes. Must remember to have tissues handy for the funeral ep.

Wrestlemania tomorrow morning. What are appropriate snacks for a four hour wrestling show? Possibly I should ask at the wrestling forum.

ETA - Annie has just come in to the computer room and told me off for keeping “a container of smelly leaves” in the kitchen cupboard. Seems she found the bayleaves

Sick Toddler

Annie woke me up at 1am saying she was cold - despite their room having a heater and mine not she wanted to stay in bed with me.

Finally started drifting off at 4am. Heidi woke up at 5.30am crying for daddy and could not be consoled until he arrived home at 7.30am. Thankfully she and he are now both sound asleep.

I’m short on sleep again but can deal with that.

Annie was meant to have her last music class today but with Heidi sick and Ralph asleep because of his night shifts I don’t think we can go. Rang and made my apologies. Very sad to miss our last ever music class. Especially after Annie got a special mention at Kinder for making up and singing her own songs. I’d wanted to tell our music teacher about it.

Hopefully Heidi is just teething and its nothing serious. She wouldn’t let me check her mouth, just screamed louder for Daddy and bit me when I tried. Her cousins were sick earlier in the week so maybe she pick up something off them.

Edited to add

When I shifted Heidi to her own bed but she woke up. So it was hours of her crying ‘no no no mummy, help me, help me, daddy daddy daddy.’

All the time while she’s crying no no no mummy she is clinging to me with arms, feet, knees, elbows and teeth. When I put her down so I could go to the toilet she shrieked and howled.

Finally she stopped at just after 1.30pm and I got to make us all something to eat and drink.

Ralph got up at 3pm, just as I started throwing up. Tried to have a nap but my entire body was rebelling against me.

Then both girls started screaming and it was all hands on deck.

Shopping and Kinder - yay pay day

Busy day again today. Took the girls to the shoes to buy Heidi a new pair of runners. She took her nappy off last night and decided to start shit kicking (literally) in her old runners. As they were falling apart anyway I decided to bin them rather than attempt the cleaning.

K-Mart had sales on today so the girls got new slippers each as well. Picked up some PJ’s for $8 each that I can give to the girls as their Easter gift - bulks up their Easter nest and makes less room for chocolate.

Ralph picked up a bunch of 2002 WWE DVDs for $9 each.

I saw some really cute PJs for me but not in my size so now I have another weightloss goal.

Annie got a special mention in Kinder today for being well behaved and also for making up and singing her own song to the class. :rainbow:

I’ve planned another four weeks of activities for playgroup.

Thursday 17th May @ 10am

  • Sing-a-long with our very own White Wiggle Pastor Brett
  • Free play (colouring/playdough)

Thursday 24th May @ 10am

  • Make a Garden (Using pieces of fabric, threads, paper, and other crafty bits)

Thursday 31st May @ 10am

  • Animal Houses (Make animal houses from twigs)

Thursday 7th June @ 10am

  • Egg Shell Faces with Hair

(Plant seedlings inside empty egg shells and watch the hair grow)

Slowly getting there with the activity planning. Thank God for the internet or this would all be so much harder.

Shopping and Rain

After the horror outing yesterday I still had to do the grocery shopping. Thankfully it was Ralphs night off so he stayed with the girls while I went out.

Hit peak hour traffic and it took me 30 minutes to travel 1kilometer. Gah!

Did my shopping and walked out of the store just as it started raining. In the space of time it took me to unload my shopping the rain had gone from light spots to a heavy downpour.

Drove out of the car park wondering why people were waving to me. Got up the street and figured out my headlights were not on. Not so smart in heavy rain at night.

Halfway home I had to pull over because I could no longer see the bonnet of my car, let alone the road. Eventually the rain slowed down and I noticed there was a whole line of cars stopped along the road. Good thing I stopped. A couple of cars had driven into fences and poles whilst trying to stop.

Drove very slowly home, got cold stuff out of car and left the rest.

Ralph made me a hot cup of tea and later unpacked the car. Then while I was asleep (or trying to sleep around the cough I’ve mysteriously aquired) he cleaned the kitchen - put shopping away, did dishes, cleaned floors and benches.

Playgroup, Haircut, Balloons, Pies and a Runaway

Playgroup today was great. We have a new mum attending with a 4 year old girl and a 15 month old boy.

To start we all sang good morning to bumble bee, a hand puppet I had from when the girls did music. Bumble bee would sing good morning to each child and they had to then sing back “good morning bumble bee”. Then we did our butterfly song and ‘Jesus Loves Me’.

I visited the local Christian Bookshop on the way to playgroup this morning and have ordered a CD with those two songs on it. While there I impulse purchased 3 books about god and animals. Read the books after singing and they were a big hit.

Then the kids had a bit of a run around. After we made Easter Egg nests and went on an Easter Egg Hunt.

Lots of fun.

The Church kitchen is now booked on Thursday mornings by a charity group who cook up goodies and sell them. Money raised is put towards making quilts and buying childrens furniture to send to an orphange in Liberia. I’m thinking of volunteering to help out with the quilting - I can cross stitch squares for them.

We had to leave playgroup early because the girls had a hairdressers appointment. Both Annie and Heidi screamed the place down when it came to getting their fringe cut. Going back in 4 weeks, I hope regular visits will get them used to it. Plus sometimes the only way to get the Weet-Bix out of their hair is to cut it.

Then we went to the local balloon/fancy dress/party shop and ordered 50 helium balloons for Annie’s birthday party at the end of April. Lady there was very nice but also insisted I carry Heidi the entire time as she didn’t want sticky fingers on the costumes. Fair enough but ouch my arm.

From the party shop we went to the local shopping centre/mall. My niece who works at Jesters Pies had 50 party pies (mini pies) for me to pick up. They are all frozen and were all free (yay) and will be perfect for Annie’s birthday party.

After that it was 1pm and so I took the girls up to the food court for lunch. I lined up at McDonalds and they ran into the playground. Heidi went straight into the gated area. When it was my turn to order I stopped watching the girls, gave my order and paid. Then turned back to see where the girls were, all of about 2 minutes later. Spotted Annie but no Heidi inside the gated area, Annie said she let her out.

Started looking for her inside the big kids play equipment, still no Heidi. Heard screams from the other side of the food court which sounded like her. Sure enough there she is with some stranger carrying her back. The lady caught her running into the car park and tells me off for not watching my child. I thank the lady and finally collect my food tray from McDonalds.

Sit down with the girls, they eat. Heidi has no interest in going back to the playground, she is sticking with me. Annie has a good run around and a play, I have a hot coffee.

We leave, with thankfully little protest. Get in the car, drive home. I park the car in our driveway and then burst into tears. Surprised I managed to stay calm for so long really.

Wooo! I talked Ralph into posting at the Unaboard. We see so little of each other whilst he is working night shift, now we can at least see each other virtually.

We’ve signed up for Wrestlemania 23 on pay per view. Ralph is very happy that we are going to be watching it live. I don’t mind just watching the free to air stuff but like making him happy.

I’m sure Heidi has some cat in her. She loves having her the spot behind her ear scritched and keeps licking my hand.

Playgroup today. Easter Egg hunt. Should be fun.

Then I am off to Metamorphysis in Eltham which is apparently a shop full of pink party products. Just perfect for Annie’s 4th Birthday coming up. I was trying to find somewhere to get helium balloons to fill our living room ceiling with and stumbled across this place. Very exciting.

Just got the disc from me friend who took the wedding photos a couple of weeks ago.

Here is a perfect shot showing the difficulties of being the videographer and trying to look after your children at the same time.

Annie got very sick of having her photo taken and decided to hide with the help of her Daddy.

Sleep and Music

The girls do so well some nights sleeping from 7pm to 7am that I expect that to happen all the time. Last night was 11am bed for Heidi and 3am wake up for Annie. Not such a great night.

At least they are off to childcare for 3 hours this morning and my movie and stitching plans may yet be achieved.

No idea how single parents cope, when Ralph is working nightshift and asleep all day I just go nuts. He may drive me up the wall some days but he keeps me sane. I really miss him even though he is here during the day, he’s not here because he’s asleep.

Everyone has voted for finishing the flowers and I agree that is the most sensible decision. Plus the bright colours will be good for what is shaping up to be a grey day.

Sad news from yesterday that I forgot to post here, had it all typed up and then got distracted -

Well damn! The girls have been going to Mini Maestros music classes for the last year.

Because we are now out 7 days a week I’ve dropped music, that gives us 2 days a week to ourselves again.

Today was Heidi’s last class and for the first time she sang “Good Morning Bumble Bee” back to the teacher when it was her turn.

She participated in the whole class and did all the right actions at the right time. And it was her last class. This is such a huge step for Heidi as she’s always struggled to communicate and participate in group activities. Now I’m trying to figure out how we could continue to integrate music into her week without taking us out of the house for an extra day.

One idea I had is do to some of the music activities at playgroup. I know them all off by heart. Even though my singing is terrible the children may enjoy it and who cares if I embaress myself infront of the other parents as long as the kids have fun.
