Remember all those towels and blankets Annie got for the Cat Protection Society instead of birthday gifts?

We dropped them off yesterday. Annie got to pat a kitty cat and she got a badge which she is very proud of. Grandy the Gorilla who is visiting from Kinder came with us, wearing a cloth nappy because Annie was worried he’d have an accident.
Despite much temptation we did not come home with a cat.
Now I must go and de-stink the kitchen. Hubby got given a large hunk of fresh salmon at work (I do wish people in Australia tipped with money) and her brought it home and cooked it last night. Unfortunately he used garlic and onion and burnt them both plus he melted a couple of my non-stick cooking utensils. The stench kept me awake for much of the night, I just can’t sleep through bad smells for some reason. He got up early and cleaned down the stove and the benches and rinsed the dishes. I’ve made fresh coffee (ground the beans and all), popped pop corn and baked bread but those lovely smells just can’t compete. Is only 8C outside and I’ve had the windows open since 1am but once the girls got up I had to close the windows and put the heating on.

I hate it when burnt cookings smells permeate … try burning non offensive incense or spray frebreeze stuff.
Lovely for Annie to get to donate to Cat Protection Society – great idea. She will grow up with a kind heart.

I’m not into chemicals because of Pierre but why don’t you try one of those Febreze spray to “eat” the bad smell? I got a great one for the toilet: smell like watermelon: it works like magic(doesn’t stinks like the ones of those flowers perfumed one)
You are so strong to resist taking a kitty home

Burnt food smells combined with fish … yech. I woke up to a stinky kitchen, too, but after I got the “green garbage” (compost items) outside, I sprinkled some lavender oil droplets around and by the time I had to start cooking breakfast, I wasn’t turning green myself.

Thank you all for the great suggestions.
I ended up simmering a large pot of water with a handful of cloves and a cinnamon stick in it. After a couple of hours I added some lemon tea bags to the mix. House smelt delicious by the end of the day.

Your Annie is certainly special to think of the cats in this way. Glad the smells are under control, and your calendar is really coming along.

Way to go Annie! You’ve got more willpower than I…I’d have come home with at least two kitties.
