Happy Birthday S!
I’m glad you were born.
And I thank the World Wide Web that I got to meet you because you are an amazing person.
Thanks to Barbara at Mainely Stitching I’ve found the perfect cross stitch for S so I might have to make it up for her birthday next year.
Speaking of stitching - look I’ve finished the numbers!!!! Now to do the border, I love the colours, blue and yellow but it is getting really tedious.
And some random waffle about my day yesterday. Annie had a major temper tantrum in the morning so I left her at home with poor hubby who’d just finished a 14 hour shift at work. Took Heidi to Pre School, boy was Annie pissed at not getting to go with Heidi! I apologised for not being able to do parent duty I was rostered on for and went back home. Then I took Annie out to the shops for some one on one time, I correctly guessed the temper tantrum was caused by too much focus on Heidi recently. Annie was such a little angel and every shop we went into Annie got seriously fussed over and she was so charming and polite - nothing like she had been at home.
We went to our special coffee shop together and Annie did the ordering, large latte for mummy, chocolate milk shake for Annie and a plate of mini pancakes with strawberries. Mmmm yummy. But it took ages for our order to arrive and Annie started getting difficult. So inspiration struck, I grabbed the little packets of sugar on the table and we had an impromptu math lesson. If Mummy has 3 sugar packets and Annie has 2, how many sugar packets are there? What if Annie had 3 packets and mummy had 2, how many would it be then? Much fun and giggles ensued as we played sugar math. Annie didn’t even want to stop for her food. ![]()

Your calendar is looking great. Glad that you were able to have a good time with Annie, it must be difficult for you to maintain an even balance with girls needs being different. We have difficulties in this area with the age gap between Luke and Joel and Caitlyn, 13, 5 and 4.
Comment by Joanne May 7, 2008 @ 12:07 pmThat was a very clever distraction with the sugar packets. I’ll have to remember that one.
Comment by lightening May 7, 2008 @ 2:27 pmBrilliant save with the one-on-one time and the ’sugar math’.
It would be so much easier if we knew exactly what they were asking for with “bad” behavior rather than having to guess. Mine have been a serious handful lately, so we are slowing down and having a picnic today.
I love your choice of gifts for S next year! LOL!!
Comment by Barbara May 7, 2008 @ 7:20 pmone on one time for Annie must be hard now - glad you got some special time together !
Comment by mylittledrummerboys May 7, 2008 @ 10:21 pmThe sugar maths rocks !
Joanne - It is hard with teenagers and toddlers in the same house. My SIL has 4 children 19, 17, 4 and 2, we see them almost every day and it is an interesting dynamic between the big kids and the little kids.
Lightening - It worked really well. We are going out for coffee again today so will see if I can repeat the success.
Barbara - Thank you so much for the link to that cross stitch pattern. I’m thrilled to finally find something S will like.
Trish - We struggle to get one on one time with Annie and she really does need it.
