Tuesday morning we dropped Heidi off at PreSchool a little later than usual. My mum had rung earlier to tell me that my Grandmas life support was being switched off, I was a little distressed and it took me a while to focus long enough to get the girls dressed and out the door.
The 19th of August is World Photography Day so I got out the camera as we walked to the bank. Annie loves to take photos, with life being so rushed we’ve done very little in the way of picture taking recently. Here are two of her shots:
Boots saw that had just been left on the side of the road like that.
Lavender garden border.
We wandered down Main Street admiring the new dark red paint that was being applied to all the rubbish bins, light poles and road side fencing. Annie was very impressed that someone had decided to change the boring grey metal poles and fences to dark red.
On Main Street we stopped at the bank and Annie took her $2 coin from the Tooth Fairy up to the teller along with her bank book and very proudly deposited her money. She now has more than enough in her account to buy a Wii! We talked about what Annie could use the money for and decided that she would save it up to pay for a car and a lap top computer to take to university just like her older cousin B.
Then it was time for morning tea and how could I resist when Annie said ever so politely “I’d like the yellow doughnut with the blue car on top please”.
Cleaning the yellow icing off the blue car.
Our doughnut break completed we walked home for a hot chocolate with two marshmallows (a rare treat indeed).
After which it was time for some work on the computer. We visited Professair’s website about our buddies the Lungs and Heart. Annie sat on my lap while I read the story off the computer screen for her. We had great fun holding our breath, breathing in and out, watching our chests rise and fall, trying to find our pulse and working out where the top and bottom of our lungs were. It was so much fun we printed off all the activities to do together later and put them into a special folder.
At 11am we thought it might be a good idea to start walking back to the PreSchool to get Heidi. As we wandered up the footpath we saw lots and lots of dandelions which Annie picked and blew the seeds away. Annie gave me one to hold onto for Heidi, she even helped me cup my hand around it so that the wind wouldn’t blow the seeds away before we got to the Preschool.
We walked past a birds nest on the ground and looked at the different materials that went into making it. Waved to the monkey bars at the Primary School Annie will attend next year and then most excitingly we saw a blocked drain outside Safeway. We talked about how smoking or fatty foods can cause the tubes inside you to get blocked just like the mud and litter blocked up the drain.
Daddy was walking home from work (nightshift) and we met up with him at the traffic lights near the PreSchool. That was a great surprise and Annie didn’t want to have anything to do with her Mummy after that. Thankfully Heidi was very happy to see me (and the Dandelion) when we got to the PreSchool so I didn’t feel too sad.

Was I mistaken about which school you are sending Annie to, or have you changed your minds?

Mel – we changed our minds. Was going to be the one over your way but I’d end up driving there most days and rising petrol prices forced me to reconsider. Even on a rainy day we could easily walk to the school close to us and barely get wet.
