Playdate and a Sheep

September 12, 2008 · 5 Comments

My 3yo Nephew came over for a playdate yesterday.  We had lots of fun.  I wasn’t as organised as I usually like to be, a change in FILs chemo schedule meant my nephew arrived a little earlier.  Annie had put all her toys in the bedroom ready for a big tidy up, so we shut the door on the mess and improvised.

It was sunny in the morning and really lovely weather for outside play so we took advantage of that until the rain arrived at lunch time.

Lunch was a picnic on the kitchen floor, complete with picnic blanket and all our food packed up in our picnic basket.

We made cubby houses and played a combination of peek a boo / hide and seek.

Made and ate Roasted Pumpkin Ice Cream. My nephew taught the girls how to eat their ice cream from the bottom of the cone.  Hilarious fun was had by all trying to eat their ice cream before it slid out the bottom.

After a very necessary bath the kids decided to set up an obstacle course in the lounge room.

My nephew is fascinated with swords and everything seems to end in sword play, so of course we had to watch The Princess Bride :) . Well selected bits of it anyway, which unsurprisingly was all the sword fighting bits.  After it was very necessary that we all got out our invisible swords and ran around the lounge room yelling ‘ching, ching, ching’ (to mimic the sound of the blades hitting together).

Quick digression here, we got rid of our cable TV package and the girls have been allowed one DVD a day to watch.  I’ve been matching the DVD to either one of their current interests or an activity we’ve been doing that day.  Everyone has been commenting on the huge improvement in Heidi’s social language skills, which is fantastic.  Oddly Heidi’s noise sensitivity has increased and she is covering her ears more often, especially when we are out.

Back to the playdate.

So much fun, I love watching what the kids will come up with next and I think they enjoyed bossing me around and telling me how they wanted to play.

This weeks Aussie Farmers Direct box arrived and I had 3 eager little helpers to unpack it, even better they helped themselves to some fresh fruit for afternoon tea.

By the end of the afternoon everyone was very tired and all three children curled up with their heads on my lap being sleeping kittens whilst I was mummy cat and rubbed their backs.

So much fun.    My girls were both sound asleep by 6pm after a busy day of playing.  Which meant I had time to stitch on this little guy:

Okay I will admit to spending some quiet time with my needle and thread instead of doing the dishes but I feel much better for it.

So the plan for Friday – wash the dishes, parent duty at Pre-School, tidy up those toys in the bedroom and write a Social Story for Heidi about change in our swimming routine.
