Stuff With Thing

The Excitment Never Ends

September 29, 2008 · 5 Comments

Yesterday I did the annual cleaning of the grout in between our kitchen tiles.

Took me about 8 hours all up because I had to keep stopping to do stuff with the girls or take a break to ease the pain in my back, knees and arms.

Least it is done for another year.

Here is a work in progress picture of the cleaning.

From September 08

I used our hand held steam jet with the brush attachment.

I’ve tried all sorts of different ways to clean grout and it really does seem to be the most effective method.

Bicarb soda, vinegar do nothing.

Bleach works really well but seems to damage the tiles. Plus sets off my asthma as do most other chemical cleaners.

Scrubbing brush is good, the steam jet makes it a bit easier by loosening up the dirt and no chemicals which is good.

How excitment is my life!

I will leave you with pictures of the girls enjoying tea parties with the tea set and table / chairs that came in their Dorothy the Dinosaur show bag, a gift from my friend J. :)

Thanks: makes me think I have to clean my toilet ;)

Chiloe – so sorry, I think I’d rather do the once a year grout cleaning than the more frequent toilet clean. Marita

I shall have to try this method. We’ve done it using bleach, but then I can’t smell or breathe for days afterward.

Barbara – the bleach gives me massive asthma attacks but does give a whiter end result (in my humble opinion), but the steam cleaning and brushing work very well also and they do get the dirt out. Marita

I remember watching my girls play with their tea sets. Seeing the girls here just bought a flood of memories back. Their father and I drinking their “tea” from tiny little cups after it had been lovingly “poured”
    :)

Anonymum – I love tea parties :) One day I hope to have a store of similar memories with my girls. Marita

That’s so cute. Um… tea parties, not the grout. ;)

Anja – The grout is crushed that you don’t think it is cute :D Marita
