and 8 Stitching Days left in Advent. Sadly no stitching has been done recently.
Thank you for all the get well wishes, they have considerably cheered me up while I’m battling this head cold.
I have been researching Christmas strategies for children with Autism.
Helping children to cope by using visual images.
· Make a timetable – maybe for weeks to begin with and then into days nearer the event.
· Use photographs and cut outs from magazines to explain what is happening (stores stocked with cards, presents and such things).
· Obtain dates of events from schools and clubs and insert these into the timetable.
· Use specific dates for putting up the tree and decorations or baking the cake.
And it was pointed out to me recently that there were some ways I could make our house more user friendly for Heidi. So I got our the PECS images, fired up the printer and the laminator and got busy
First I’ve marked out where the tissue box is (or should be), Heidi is helping me show off our new images
When you have the dread lurgy the location of the tissue box is a priority 1 issue.

The shoe and bag bench now has labels

The shoe and bag bench is new to our house, it was the toy box at my father in laws home and hubby inherited it. The change in shoe box location and appearance has caused Heidi great confusion so the labels will be a great help. Here is Annie displaying her artwork on the bench:

It is a lovely piece of furniture and we are honoured that father in law wanted us to have it.
Heidi and I put PECS images on the bookshelf in her bedroom:

That second one Heidi is pointing to is an open book.
We labeled the toy box:

and the girls art drawers

Finally I got around to printing off the Health Page that I’d been meaning to do for ages, it has pictures Heidi can point to if she is feeling sick or hurt. Now it is up on our fridge door, along with the magnetic calendar and count down to advent calendar.
From Nov 2008
The only problem was the health page didn’t include a sore throat picture so I drew one myself
From Nov 2008
I also labeled the games and puzzle cupboard but that stuff is going to be reorganised soon to a different location.
From Nov 2008
And now I just have to figure out how to fit all of Heidi’s sensory therapy equipment into our lounge room as well as the new toy storage system we are hoping to impliment for Heidi (and Annie). Juggling, juggling, juggling.

Now I’m going to curl up in bed with some more chicken noodle soup.
